A little archery tip

Do you shoot like a speeding bullet sending off many arrows as fast as possible?  The routine after you shoot each arrow…. Is the routine important?  Click on the below video for Lucy’s cool archery tip.

Have a fantastic day and I appreciate you.

Who says archery is just for kids?

Families who bow together grow together  🙂  .

Just so much fun  🙂  🙂  . We also saw an airplane doing aerobatics during our last class and the kids in the class pointed out a spaceship in the sky.  Yes it was just a jet flying way high, but it was fun and they were not the little kids either.  Lots of laughs and popping of balloons as well as learning new skills hidden in games.

We were just about to start the interview and below is what I saw behind the person who was about to video tape us.  So I asked for my phone back for a moment and I took this picture and then we continued on 🙂 .

To The Women Who Inspire Us, Thank You :).

summer 2009 me and my Mom

It’s mothers day this week… And when I called my Mom a day early, I told her that everyday is mothers day.   Then I started thinking about the women in my life that have inspired me.  Wouldn’t it be great if we called the women that we know, who are an inspiration and just tell her and thank her?  They might not even realize what a difference they have had in your life.

My Mom is a wonderful and courageous woman.  She let me take flying lessons when I was a teenager, crazy uhh?  I had just turned 16 years old and I took my first lesson in this white with green tail sign N1315Q  in a Cessna 150.

Then when I became a pilot my first passenger was my Mom :).  Mom you have guts!! She didn’t tell me then, but she was afraid of flying LOL wow. Thank you Mom for your courage and love 🙂

A couple of years ago I asked my Mom why she let me learn how to fly and why she got into an airplane with me as my first passenger when she was scared of flying.  Her response was the she didn’t want her fears to stop me from doing what I wanted to do.  Talk about a powerful statement.

And my grandmother Celia Houghton (Nana) who was a teacher of teachers, inspired us all to greatness.  She believed that students are people and not just a number and so she taught her students and instilled in our family, that we are all unique, great and wonderful people.  And…. Nana paid for my first couple of flying lessons as a birthday gift. What a great gift for a 16 year old 🙂

First page of my first log book. At that time I could only afford .5 hours of flying lessons at a time as I was working part time as a life guard and water safety instructor to pay for my lessons.

My first log book is a little warn out 🙂

After high school I went on to Daniel Webster College and I received an undergrad in Aviation Management / Flight Operations and earned my Commercial License and Flight Instructor Certification.

The below picture I took while I was in flight school at Daniel Webster College, or  maybe I took that picture at an airport when I was working in Washington DC. I was checking out a few places to do some flying at when I lived in DC.

My grandmother Celia Houghton, who inspired others through the work she did and the innovative programs she created.  🙂  🙂  Love you Nana  🙂 .

Archery Tip: How to think after you miss.

My archery Coach Marcia Wyman told me a story once, about how a high level archer was competing in large tournament with thousands of people watching and she missed the target.  Then this archer was able to consistently hit the 10 after that miss.   Marcia told me this story a few years ago, so maybe she hit the 1 or 2 but it was a big enough error that the crowd reacted.

How do you mentally pick yourself back up after a miss?  Do you beat yourself up? or do you decide to focus on the now, instead of the past?

Marcia, thank you for introducing me to the world of archery  🙂

First Archery Instructor Class of The 2015 Season

Awesome fun time with some great people in this archery instructor class.  We were all ready for hot weather like it was the night before. But no… mother nature turned down the temperature, as we started out it was about 70F and then the temperature dropped.  Everyone had great attitudes and awesome focus.

Students in the archery instructor class talking about the importance of a letdown with a bow, not in life.  But in life it is just how you decide to think about it. Right?

Group selfy, we were cold. Who thought the temperature was going to drop down into the 40sF brrr….  and they did a great job despite the cold and it started to get dark, close to the end of class.

By the time we did the video interviews, it was getting dark out lol.   The practical hands on part of the class was done by the time it got dark out  :).

Thank you Matt at Merrimack Park and Recreation for hosting this class and also participating in the class.  And thank you to all my participates for taking this cool archery instructor class.  Have fun with your summer camp programs!!

Coach Lucy

PS.  One of the participants in this class did archery at a local camp for a few years and his archery instructor at the camp was certified by me.  I can tell that his archery instructor understands the rules and form work, because I could see that this young archer, that was in my instructor class, has good habits and already new the safety rules.
