Coach Dee came back for a second interview but this time it was on video!  It’s a longer podcast than what I normally do, but we had so much to talk about.  You get to hear Dee’s insight into what it is like to coach at probably one of the most stressful tournaments in the world, his thoughts on how to teach the form, what it was like to work on a shrimp boat, and much more.

Coach Dee Falks  was born and raised in Texas. Dee joined the Army at the age of 18, and was an Airborne Ranger for 20 years.  After retiring from the Army at the age of 38, Dee started a successful landscaping business, then in 1998 he moved to Mount Juliet Tennessee and only a year later Dee was introduced to archery.  In 2002 Dee became the National Federation Director of the Archery Shooters Association and in 2004 Dee sold his landscaping business so he could do archery as a full time career.  Dee became a level 5 NTS coach in 2009 meanwhile in 2008 Dee wrote and published the Level 3 NTS (Community Coach) course.

Dee works as an international coaching consultant and contractor for Costa Rica, New Zealand and Dubai. Dee has been a staff member or personal Coach on 25 international trips since the summer of 2009 and Dee was the USA Youth Olympic Archery Coach in the first Youth Olympic Games in 2010. And in 2013 Dee was elected to the USA Archery Board as the Coach Direct

In This Episode You’ll Discover:

  • Dee’s passion for archery
  • That it is important to teach the mental game early on in archery
  • What it is like to coach at the Olympic trials
  • How to deal with the stress of coaching at the Olympic trials
  • Dee’s thoughts on the form and how to teach it injury free
  • What crazy job did Dee have in high school
  • How to deal with loss at the highest level of competing
  • The soft skills that you develop in archery that are life changing
  • Shooting at a grapefruit at the distance of a football field
  • How coaching is more then just telling people what to do
  • How archery has changed Dee’s life

Books that Dee recommends: “Any book about strengthening the mental process, any books by Richard Bach or Steven King.  Jonathan Livingston Seagull is one of my favorite books of all time.” – Quote Dee Falks

Mindset… What is that?

When you wind yourself up, so that the archery competition feels like a storming dragon that makes you almost shake in fear, because of fear of failure? Could feel the same about a presentation at work perhaps?  What is your strategy to be in control of the things you have control over?
